FAQs

What are the payment terms and schedule?

A minimum deposit of $299 plus GST is required to reserve your spot, and all payments are non-refundable. The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to departure. Payment plans can be arranged. Because of the nature of the trip and the preparation involved, all payments are final and non-refundable.

What paddling skill level is required?

The Wasaksina loop in Temagami is a great opportunity for beginner paddlers to get an idea of what a backcountry canoe trip is like.  This trip is all flat water and has a good amount of short portages. It will be challenging but very doable for a beginner paddler!

Do I need backcountry camping experience?

No prior backcountry tripping experience is required. It’s important to be aware that this is a wilderness setting, which means using outdoor washroom facilities, sleeping in tents, and embracing a more rustic lifestyle.

Can I bring my own camping gear?

Yes, you can bring your own personal camping gear but Temagami Outfitting Co. will provide all of the group gear to allow the guides an easier set up.

What will a typical day be like?

You can expect to be on the water for anywhere from 4-6 hours each day with a break for lunch in between.

Can I film/take pictures?

We totally support you documenting your trip to look back on later.  However please be mindful to not capture others in photos or videos that would prefer not to be photographed. Also, take as many photos and videos as you want as long as it is not interefering with the pace of the trip.

Will there be coffee?

Yes, you will be caffeinated! We can't guarantee that it will be the exact brand and brewing style that you prefer but these are the joys of backcountry camping!

I'm Canadian, do I need travel insurance?

If you are travelling from outside of Ontario then it is recommended you purchase additional health insurance specifically for extraction from the backcountry.  Ambulance bills and prescriptions will not be reimbursed by your home province.  (Speaking from experience)

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes, Temagami Outfitting Co. will do their best to accommodate all dietary restrictions.  If you have specific dietary needs or allergies, please be sure to communicate them clearly so we can ensure an enjoyable experience for all!

Will they provide camp chairs?

Yes, Temagami Outfitting Co. can provide a camp chair for those that would like one. You can also bring your own if you prefer.

Do I have to share a tent?

Yes, Temagami Outfitting will be providing 3-person tents for 2 people to share.

How will water be treated?

Water will be treated via gravity filters or boiling water.  On occasion tablets are used.  You can bring your own personal filtration system or tablets.

What rating should my sleeping bag be?

Will they supply us with a dry bag for our gear?

A summer sleeping bag should suffice at this time of year, typically with a rating of 0ºC and up.

Yes, Temagami Outfitting will supply each person with their own large dry bag for personal gear.

Will there be bugs?

Yes, be prepared for bugs - although they shouldn't be horrible at this time of year.  A bug shirt or at least a bug net for you face is recommended along with long sleeves and long pants.

What shoes should I bring?

It is recommended to have water shoes with a good sole (ex. Keens or Merrells etc.) for getting in and out of the canoe.  It is also a good idea to bring a second pair of shoes that will stay dry to wear around camp and/or for hiking.

Will Tori Baird be guiding the trip?

No, this trip will be outfitted and guided by Temagami Outfitting Co. Tori Baird will not be on this trip.
