Green River 2026
The calm waters of the Green River meanders through Labyrinth and Stillwater Canyons to the Colorado River, making up some of Utah's most beautiful scenery. We will paddle a scenic stretch of flat water that will follow the rolling desert hills of eastern Utah into the majestic depths of Labyrinth.
Our paddling-friendly waterways will promote skill-building and teamwork as we learn to paddle the desert landscape. This journey will allow us to explore over 50 miles of canyons and many side canyons. We will travel through the ancient times and history of the landscape as we view the ruins and rock art sites of the Pueblo Indians. Red cliffs, desert sunsets, and warm days await this memorable experience.

FAQs
What are the payment terms and schedule?
A minimum deposit of $999 is required to reserve your spot, and all payments are non-refundable. The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to departure. Payment plans can be arranged. Because of the nature of the trip and the preparation involved, all payments are final and non-refundable.
What paddling skill level is required?
The Green River is scenic and relatively calm, making it a great choice for those looking to get introduced to paddling or build confidence on the water. Break Water Expeditions experienced guides will be there to support you every step of the way, and you’ll receive plenty of guidance on paddling and camping skills throughout the journey. Although you don't need to have prior paddling experience, you should be physically fit enough to handle long days of paddling.
Do I need backcountry camping experience?
We do recommend having at least one backcountry trip under your belt so you know what to expect. But it’s important to be aware that backcountry travel in the dessert is a little different than the Canadian shield, specifically how & where you go to the bathroom. We’ll go over this in more detail in our pre-trip meeting so you’ll have a better idea of what to expect. Being comfortable with the uncomfortable is essential to fully enjoy the adventure.
Can I bring my own camping gear?
Break Water Expeditions are supplying us with most of the gear, and we want to utilize and allow the guides to easily prepare. We recommend using everything that is included but if there is a piece of gear that you are very particular about, you may bring your own (ie. life jacket or paddle). Please review the list of what is Not Included. A more detailed pack list will be provided closer to the trip date.
What will a typical day be like?
A typical start of the day would be to get on the water around 9-10am and paddle for ~6 hours with breaks and lunch in between before setting up camp in the late afternoon/evening.
Can I film/take pictures?
We totally support you documenting your trip to look back on later. However please be mindful to not capture others in photos or videos that would prefer not to be photographed. Also, take as many photos and videos as you want as long as it is not interefering with the pace of the trip.
Will there be coffee?
Yes, you will be caffeinated! We can't guarantee that it will be the exact brand and brewing style that you prefer but these are the joys of backcountry camping!
Where can I store my luggage?
If you have luggage or gear that you want to have in Grand Junction with you but don't plan on bringing it on the canoe trip you can leave it in the locked storage at the hotel you'll be staying at before and after the canoe trip. Please be mindful of space restrictions and only leave one bag.
I'm Canadian, do I need travel insurance?
It is strongly recommended you purchase travel insurance ensuring it specifically covers extraction from the backcountry.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes, Breakwater Expeditions will do their best to accommodate all dietary restrictions. If you have specific dietary needs or allergies, please be sure to communicate them clearly and specifically on the forms provided so we can ensure an enjoyable experience for all! If you have many restrictions and allergies and would feel more comfortable bringing your own meals, please let us know and we can discuss deducting food costs from your price. (Please note this will only be in very rare and specific circumstances)
Will they provide camp chairs?
Yes, camp chairs will be provided. You can also bring your own if you prefer.
Do I have to share a tent?
Yes, Breakwater Expeditions will be providing 3-person tents for 2 people to share.
How will water be treated?
Breakwater Expeditions will bring jugs of drinking water as the water in the Green River is often too silty for filtration.
Will they supply us with a dry bag for our gear?
Yes, each person will be supplied with their own 70L dry bag for your personal gear as well as a 10L dry bag for your dry bag.
Will there be bugs?
Yes, be prepared for bugs - although they shouldn't be horrible at this time of year. A bug shirt or at least a bug net for you face is recommended along with long sleeves and long pants.
What type of PFD's will they provide?
You will provided with paddling style PFDs.
Do I have to share a hotel room?
Yes, the rates are based on double occupancy.
Can I get a preview of the menu?
A typical menu with Breakwater Expeditions contains healthy fresh food, vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains, and meats.
What shoes should I bring?
It is recommended to have water shoes with a good sole paired with neoprene socks (ex. Keens or Merrells etc.) for getting in and out of the canoe. It is also a good idea to bring a second pair of shoes that will stay dry to wear around camp and/or for hiking.
Will Tori Baird be on the trip?
No, Tori will not be on the trip but she will be there to support you leading up to the trip and answer any questions or ease any hesitations you may have.
