🛶 Must-Have Backcountry Luxury Items for Outdoorsy Moms

Let’s be honest…

Backcountry camping isn’t always the relaxing escape we imagine — especially as moms.

You’re still:

  • Packing for everyone

  • Cooking meals

  • Keeping track of where everything is

  • And carrying most of the mental load… just in the woods instead of at home

So if you’re going to be out there?

You deserve a little luxury too.

Not over-the-top, heavy, unnecessary gear — but simple items that make your trip more comfortable, more organized, and way more enjoyable.

These are the “luxuries” that actually make a difference.

🪑 1. A Real Camp Chair (Not a Log)

Let’s start with the most important one.

A Helinox Camp Chair (Chair One High-Back) is a total game changer.

Because after a long day of paddling:

  • Sitting on a rock isn’t cutting it

  • And neither is crouching around a fire

💛 You deserve:

  • Back support

  • Comfort

  • A place to actually relax

This is one of those items that once you bring it… you’ll never go without it again.

🪵 2. A Small Camping Table

This might seem like a “nice-to-have”…

Until you don’t have anywhere to put your coffee ☕️

A Helinox camping table gives you:

  • A clean space for food prep

  • Somewhere to set drinks

  • A bit of organization at camp

And let’s be honest — if someone is making you dinner, you should at least have somewhere to set your drink 😉

🧴 3. Nalgene Containers (For Smarter Packing)

Packing smart is part of the luxury.

Using Nalgene containers (in different sizes) helps you:

  • Organize spices, sauces, and oils

  • Pack medications neatly

  • Reduce bulk and mess

💡 Bonus: the bigger ones are great for rehydrating meals and storing leftovers!

It’s a small thing… but it makes a big difference.

🧺 4. Barrel Organizers (Save Your Sanity)

If you’ve ever dug shoulder-deep into a food barrel looking for one thing…

You already know 😅

Barrel organizers by Recreational Barrel Works:

  • Keep everything in its place

  • Make cooking way faster

  • Eliminate the chaos

Options like:

  • Barrel buckets

  • Coolers

  • Hanging kitchen organizers

👉 This is less about luxury… and more about not losing your mind at camp

🎒 5. A Dry Bag You Can Actually Use

Not all dry bags are created equal.

A Watershed dry bag (duffel-style) is one of my favourites because:

  • It has a wide opening (you can actually find things)

  • It’s shaped like a bag you’re used to using

  • It keeps everything dry without the frustration

I call it my “river purse” — and it comes everywhere with me. The one I use is pretty big but when you're travelling with kids it's great to be able to fit diapers, wipes, snacks, bug jackets, rain jackets, sunscreen, bug spray, lip chap, you name it!

🪚 6. A Folding Saw (Quick + Efficient)

Firewood matters.

And struggling with a dull or bulky saw? Not fun.

A folding saw by Agawa:

  • Is compact

  • Opens in seconds

  • Makes cutting wood quick and efficient

Plus it comes with a storage bag, so it’s easy to pack and access.

💛 Luxuries That Actually Work

Here’s the thing:

These aren’t just “nice extras.”

For me, they’ve become essential to enjoying a trip more.

Because when you:

  • Feel comfortable

  • Stay organized

  • Reduce stress

You actually get to enjoy being out there.

And that matters.

🛶 You Deserve to Enjoy This Too

Backcountry trips aren’t just about surviving.

They’re about:

  • Slowing down

  • Being outside

  • Feeling strong and capable

And yes — being a little more comfortable while doing it 😉
